I was looking up animal Psychology and experimental behaviour videos and found this. This mirror was installed in a forest down in Nonie in Gabon. It was intended for use of an Animal Behaviour experiment.
This is most interesting experiment of animal behaviour as it allows us to see that the Leopards are aware of the mirror and that it could also be showing their reflection! This would make them self aware! A trait shared only amongst the most intelligent of living beings in this world. Though I would have no real back up and it would be unrealistic to base my theory from this one video, it at least show’s people that the big cats, KNEW this was something entirely different .
I found it most amusing and surprising how the younger male , plays with the mirror just like a modern domestic cat does play .Though this is not the most fascinating video to watch, I just found it incredible, if you just THINK that other living being’s like these wild cats , actually have INTELLIGENCE to THINK for themselves.
Leopards are considered to be the most intelligent among the BIG FOUR cats,
Lions,Tigers,Jaguars & themselves.
This is proven through their ability to avoid capture by towns/villages that
set up traps. Leopard’s easily evade and overcome these obstacles and continue
to take down livestock, however this is where confrontation with people can
begin.
It has also been noted that their intelligence is
one of their biggest assets when hunting , defending themselves from lions
& taking on hyenas.
One Captive Black Panther, from Florida’s Big Cat Rescue was known to use pumpkin seeds as bait to attract birds and squirrels to an ambush.
There was one case where in which a leopard feigned death when attacked by baboons, and then when one of the baboons went closer to inspect "the body", the leopard killed it.
They are the most adaptable of the big four.
The fact that leopards are still found in areas where other big cats are long extinct(including certain cities like Bombay) certainly sets them apart in terms of intelligence and adaptability.
Due to all this, I truly believe the Leopards are the King of the big cats but also one of natures most interesting animals.
